Discipleship

One of the first schools people take with Youth With A Mission (YWAM) is the Discipleship Training School.

This school is designed to help people explore and grow their walk with Jesus.

One aspect of these schools is that all students do 10 hours of Work Duty a week. For us, we get students to help with the Natural Farm and get to teach them at the same time about God Creation.

Training and Manila

So, we moved into a yurt. Our neighbors are now roosters, turkeys, and coquí frogs.Living in Kona is interesting. We’re not on holiday, and our economy is very much supported by holidaymakers, so I can’t begrudge them having fun while they are here. Where we were...

Why a Website?

Why a Website? Why a Website? This work builds out what I do in a rather organic and unstructured way, from: Need. Work. My Location My Country. Ministry. Goals. Vision. It's not necessarily a good or even useful list, and it's order may cause more problems. It's like...

Money

Not splitting words. It's not money that is the root of all evil. It is the love of it.Nor is this splitting words over semantics; this is understanding that words mean things, and words in the scriptures need to be accurately defined and used, such that...

2023 in review

2023. Christmas in NZ was a joy to have time with family. End of an era. Living Small. The Philippines. Campus Life. Technology. Christine.Christmas 2023 at Jenny & Joe's Home in Wellington.Jonathan had also come to New Zealand from Hawaii for three weeks at the...

The Command Line

The Command Line. The command line is a great way to get things done quickly, every time. I use to manipulate pictres, createing different sizes before I upload them to WordPre..  Working at the command line.Less secure apps.Settings are here....

Wrath

Wrath Inconceivably, I don't think this word, wrath, means what you think it means. I have come to consider, more often than not, God's wrath is about him removing himself from a situation rather than God opening the grown to swallow the rebellious, Him striking...

Made in God’s Image

Made in God's Image. Yet we are not God. Genesis 1:26-31 Yet we are not God.We are not all-knowing; we have to grow in knowledge. We are not all present and never will be, and so lack complete situational awareness; we are ignorant of all the things that are happening...

We have a murder mystery.

We have a murder mystery.... Someone brutally murdered Jesus, but who? There is an obviousness to this murder in the three or four or five Roman soldiers at the summit of Golgotha, throwing dice for the clothes of a naked man up on a cross.  This man, Jesus, whom they...

A Website is a tool

A Website is a Tool.Like a hammer or chisel. You never expect to pick up a guitar or trumpet and just start playing. You have to practise. You have to get familiar with how the saw or piano works. You have many experiences from the physical world that you...

Equipping

Gaining New Skills I had this conversation the other day. When you are learning a new skill from someone, it is the FIRST time. How many times has the teaching taught this skill? HUNDREDS! We have poor thinking that makes us think that the first time we learn a new...

Gardening

We work with the Natural Farm here in Kona. This is part of the training arm of Youth With A Mission.

Training

Students come to the farm for a number of different reasons.

We do have a school that normally runs from April to June each year.

Multiplication

An area we work in is to help other grow what they are doing.

One way to facilitate this is that we help develop websites for people and ministries.

Small Space Gradening

Anyone can garden, from a window planter with some cilantro and chives to potatoes in four tires.

Plants as Medicine

Cultivate a couple of aloe vera plants for those times you get sun burnt, or some lemon grass to keep mosquitos away.

Aquaponics

When we first arrived in Kona, we were working with Aquaponics, from planting seeds to harvesting produce for the Campus Cafeteria.

Fermented Goodness

Christine has spent time teaching students the goodness of Kombocha. Something we drink every day.

Life Empowering Technology & Science

We split our time around a number of different commitments, both on Campus and out in the Kona community.

LETS, or Life Empowering Technology & Science keeps us busy in a number of different capacities. From the website, https://letskona.com, to record keeping, Christine sewing all sorts of projects.

Kona

Being involved in technology means that I also spend time working out in the Kona Business community, upgrading Restaurants networks for a new installation, wiring out and programming smart homes, and even from time to time repairing homes.

Get your hands dirty

One of the reasons why we came to Hawaii was to get in to 12 months a year gardening.

That is is warm is also an advantage.

With our children and grand children (I don’t mean you Kat, I just mean in general) being so absorbed by screen we need to help to get them out in to the big blue room and get some good soil on their hands.

We have this interesting intersection between growing good food, and technology.
