Being in Kona enables us to be involved with a lot of different people and their ministries.

When we started exploring coming to Kona, the Natural Farm quickly became a good match. We were already experimenting with Aquaponics in the Wairarapa.

Another part of what we felt to do here was to collaborate with others to help them to do what they do better.

So today we find ourselves working with the Farm, the Community Development part of the Campus, as well being available with Thecnology and Education.

Learning Center

I, Christine, have been helping a young girl with her reading and language.

The Stewardship & Sustainability School

This school teaches our students Regenerative Farming, Permaculture, Aquaponics, and a range of other subjects that they can take anywhere in the world to help communities become more sustainable.

Kombucha, the good of Fermentation

Compared to sodas, with reduced sugar and good favors, this home made drink is one we use every day and teach our students how to make.

Aquaponics Shade Cloth

Kona can produce food 12 months of the year, and the sun can be a bit harsh at times, so I, Christine, was asked to sew up these shade cloths, their main job is to keep bugs out and they also reduce the direct sunlight to give the smaller plaints an easier start.

Deep Litter Pigs

From time to time we end up helping out with the Pig. Some of our pigs get to live in a Deep Litter shelter that is fortified with our IMO to remove the smell and give them a healthy environment.

The litter on the floor is 1 meter deep and has never had to be replaced as our friendly bacteria eat all the waste up. We just have to add more bio-matter from time to time.

Deep in the matrix.

It is fair to say that I do spend a lot of time in front of a computer.

I am almost as happy as our pigs.

The Natural Farm

We think we have the most beautiful and creative part of the campus.

We make our own compost from the waste of the Campus, even the coffee shop.

We then use the rich compost to make our own soil.

This soil is fortified with IMO, our not so secret recipe that we teach everyone that comes to the farm.

We do not till our soil, so the bacteria is strong and alive.

We use mulch to keep the water in and the sun away from our bacteria.

We harvest for the Cafeteria on Campus and for us to take home.

Any friends the come to visit us, get to enjoy some time in the garden.

Quilting Ministry

I, Christine, have been making baby quilts for many of the new moms on campus. They are here from all over the world and especially when they are having a first child I have been able to bring a little home away from home for them.

Stewardship

I, Tony, have worked around campus to help us use our finances wisely.

From Water management to power management. New cabling to the Digital Library.

Digital Library

A task that I have inherited that I like is managing the Digital Library for the University here.

I have slowly been able to grow it as I seek to help all YWAM staff and students to have access to this resource.

Currently, we are sitting at 1,000 members.

Kona Campus

There is no end to keeping things working.

From keeping the harvest data straight to managing the communications for the campus in Google and Workplace.

Projects pop up that we can help with and because we do not have the commitment of being staff in schools we get to fill in the gaps to take the pressure off people.
