The Problems & Powers of Tribalism
Families, clans, tribes, iwi, and hui can all be good and secure things.
They can also turn us against our neighbor, fellow man, and fellow woman.
The differences can become a reason for separation rather than a celebration of life.
We have some words that are getting pushed around: Echo Chamber, Them, Deplorables, Conspiracy Theorists, Racists, Sexist, -phobe.
These are words to create separation, words not to explain things but to label someone so they can be disregarded.
Our tribes can either teach us and guide us to be strong in ourselves in the face of differences so that we might gain new capacity from the good of the difference, or lead us to merely reject the different, out of hand, from fear and anxiety.
We need to be cacious with the different just not reactionary.
